Switchable glass, also known as ‘smart glass’ is one of the most stylish and contemporary products we install and it certainly has that ‘Wow’ factor! This is glass which can be either clear (see-through) or opaque (not see-through).
How does Switchable Glass work?
Switchable glass is made up of different layers, there is the glass itself and then a self-adhesive layer, a soft flexible transparent ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) layer and finally a layer of tiny liquid crystal molecules.
When the switchable or smart glass is turned on, the tiny molecules of liquid crystals are aligned and allow light to penetrate through the glass, the glass becomes transparent. When switched off, the crystals are unaligned and block the light, making the glass opaque.
What are the Benefits of Switchable Glass?
Having a dual-purpose glass partition means more flexibility within the workplace. There is no need to worry about committing to a solid wall that would give increased privacy for meetings but that will also block out natural light. With switchable glass, you can have the best of both worlds. Smart or switchable glass is practical, but also becomes a design feature within any office space.
When switched off, smart glass can be transformed into an HD projection screen which is fantastic for presentations, videos and pitches. One sure-fire way to impress potential clients! If you are looking to create a sleek and modern look then switchable glass partitions are perfect, there is no need for bulky blinds that gather dust. Switchable glass offers privacy on demand, the highest transparency and sound insulation. There are several control options and switchable glass is resistant to heat and shatterproof for safety. The Switchable glass walls that we install come with a 3-year warranty and full remote control operation.
