How to Install Glass Partition Walls

Glass partitions are a modern addition to any workplace or luxury home, offering benefits such as maximised natural light and better connectivity throughout your space. In fact, there are so many advantages, we could go on forever (and have in this blog).

With that said, the key to ensuring the quality, longevity and benefactors of glass partitions for home environments or offices is the installation. Our team of experienced fitters have years of experience, so you can rest assured that your glazed walls are reaching their full potential.

How Much Does it Cost to Install Glass Partitioning?

The first step to your installation is determining, “what is my glass partition cost?”. Whilst there’s sadly no one-size-fits-all answer, our bespoke quote tool provides instant clarity on your project expenses.

The following factors will also impact the cost of your partition walls:

  • Type of Glass – The type of glass, including your glazing options and any privacy requirements, will influence the final price of your project.
  • Room Size -The larger the room you’re looking to divide, the more materials are needed, naturally impacting your overall costs.
  • Customisation – Any bespoke or complex requests, whether that’s a custom glass manifestation or unique partition design, may incur a larger fee.

Safety Considerations

As leading glass partitioning fitters, safety has to be our top priority. Before we begin working on your project, we will require a clear site, free from obstructions or other potential risks.

Our accredited fitters follow strict safety protocols, including proper handling of the glass panes and the use of lifting techniques to deliver a swift and seamless installation. We’ll also follow through with all the necessary precautions concerning PPE and safety equipment.

How Thick Should My Glass Partitions Be?

Most standard glass walls measure 10mm thick, with variations based on desired performance. For example, double glazed glass partitioning may measure 12mm in thickness; the thicker the glass, the better the acoustic and thermal insulation it will offer.

How Tall Should My Glass Partitions Be?

The maximum glass partitioning height we install with 10mm glass is 2.7m. For anything higher than this, we recommend thicker glass walls to ensure the structural integrity of your system. This is something we can discuss during your initial consultation.

Our Step-by-Step Glass Partition Wall Installation Method

We use a tried and tested frameless glass installation process to ensure our customers experience a quick and easy project delivery. Each project is unique, however, we use the following fitting steps as a guide:

  1. Start with a Consultation – Your glass partitioning project will begin with an enquiry. Once you’ve reached out to our team, our glass experts are more than happy to share their opinions and advice so that you find the best solution. We’ll also ask you for the relevant information that we need. From site visits to creating glass partitioning designs, we promise clear and transparent communication to bring your vision to life.
  2. Schedule an Installation Date – Once you’re happy, we’ll schedule a wall glass installation date at your earliest convenience. A reminder: Please ensure that your site is clear and ready for us to fit your new glazed partitions. If there are any issues, please inform our team as soon as possible.
  3. Fit the Partitioning Tracks – The first step is to drill your aluminium perimeter track profiles into your floor, walls and ceiling. Typically, these measure 25mm thick and as available with a series of modern colours to choose from. Once correctly fitted, they ensure the alignment and stability of your glass partition walls.
  4. Install the Glass Partitions – Next, we’ll slot your glazed panels into your glass partition track profiles. This step requires skill and experience to ensure a high quality finish. Once secured, you’ll start to see your new partitions taking shape!
  5. Fit the Glass Door – If your project requires it, our glass door fitters will now install your glazed door, as well as the relevant ironmongery. Our team take incredible care to ensure this sits seamlessly with your glass walls and that there are no functional faults.
  6. Add The Finishing Touches – Should you require any extras, such as banding or a glass manifestation, this will be applied as the final step.

We don’t just stop there. Once we’ve delivered your glass partitioning installation, we’ll drop off an added aftercare guide so that you have the knowledge to maintain your modern glass interiors for a long time. If you have any questions or issues afterwards, our team are also always happy to help.

Troubleshooting Common Snagging Issues

Despite having over 20 years experience in the industry, we’ll be the first to admit we still face a few challenges from time to time when installing glass partition wall systems. With that said, we have many tricks up our sleeve to overcome even the most complex of projects.

  • Overcoming Sloped Ceilings – If you have a sloped ceiling that you’re worried may compromise your glass partitioning installation, fear not! Before we begin any work, we’ll assess your space to identify these challenges and pose the best solution, whether that’s raking your glass or building bulkheads.

  • Installing Flooring – If your glass wall installation is part of a wider fit out, we’re flexible to suit your schedule. For example, if you’re having new flooring fitted, we’ll typically ensure that a 5-10mm allowance is made. Please let our team know as allowances will also need to be made for your glass door, before we arrive on site.
  • Fitting Awkward Spaces – For corner offices and other awkward spaces, we often install curved glass partitioning. The partition design is perfect to suit slightly more unusual spaces, all while giving your space a high end finish.
